Together they create books that feel timeless and tender, inviting readers of all ages to experience the beauty of the Gulf through words and color.
About Us

The Painter and The Poet is the creative team of Perry and Tami Curtis Guy, a husband and wife duo dedicated to celebrating the beauty, spirit, and stories of the Gulf Coast through art and poetry. Together, they have released a growing collection of family books that blend Tami’s vibrant illustrations with Perry’s heartfelt writing.
Their book Fine Feathered Friends features Tami’s illustrations of beloved Gulf Coast birds paired with Perry’s poems written for each image. This special project was commissioned by the Audubon Institute of Mississippi and beach placards featuring the artwork were installed along the Mississippi coastline in 2021.
Tami, whose fine art can be found at TamiCurtisStudios.com, is a Southern artist with roots in Leesville, Louisiana. After many years with a gallery on Magazine Street in New Orleans, she and Perry now make their home in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Perry was raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, and has spent most of his life on or near the Gulf Coast. Along with his writing, he recently released a new album titled The Mardi Gras Boat Parade and has authored six books that honor the joy and culture of the Great Gulf Coast.
The Painter and The Poet series features six family friendly books that celebrate the beauty and culture of Gulf Coast life. The collection begins with Treasures in the Sand and A Gulf Coast Christmas, illustrated by Melissa Turk Studios and Bridget Starr Taylor. The Mardi Gras Boat Parade introduces Tami Curtis Guy as illustrator, followed by The Great Gulf Coast Seafood Festival, a lively story filled with traditional recipes and animated coastal characters. Fine Feathered Friends highlights beloved coastal birds with a memorable jingle, and Farmers Market closes the series with a colorful family adventure that celebrates community and local flavors.
Each book in the collection is created for families to enjoy together, thoughtfully written and illustrated for readers ages three to one hundred and three.
